Easter Over My Years

  Easter...

When you are little for Easter you usually get a basket full of chocolates and jelly beans, and let's be honest, kid or adult that's just SUPER. Easter egg hunts, food, family. Easter is awesome.

I can remember waking up on Easter morning when I was little and my mom and grandma standing in the living room telling my sister and I to find our baskets (because of course that tricky little Easter Bunny hid them). We could then eat a couple candies before church, but we had to wait until later to eat more. Waiting to eat candy was probably the worst part of Easter that I remember as a kid. It was like torture. After finding our basket and inhaling all that was allowed of our candy, we would then put on our Easter dresses and go to church. Our church had one very awesome thing on Easter morning. There was a giant cross on the ground at the front of our huge church made entirely out of Lilies. After church sometimes there was dinner at my uncle's and I vaguely remember an egg hunt at my Uncle Alan's one year. I enjoyed Easter, usually it was warm, flowers and trees were turning green again, and I had a load of candy and a sugar rush to match it. What kid wouldn't be happy?

As an 18 year old and for a few years after that, Easter meant nothing. No candy, no church, no big deal. I had more important things to do, and by important I mean lazy. I wouldn't do much of anything, so much so I can't even tell you what I did for Easter for those few years. I was probably sound asleep while those chumps woke up to go to church, and those little kids got all my candy. But no matter, I was an adult if I wanted candy I could go buy it, and I didn't want church so I was set.

Fast forward a few years to 2005, Easter morning. I had a job at a church, not because I liked church, but because I liked money. I got paid 10 bucks an hour to watch two kids in a nursery, every so often there was more than two, like twelve, but I didn't care. However, as I drove to work that Easter morning my boyfriend (now my husband) was going to church with his brother and sister-in-law and I felt jealous. I didn't want to go to work, I wanted to go to church "like a good person would" and be with my "family" (we weren't married so technically we weren't family yet). I let my boss know that I really wanted to go to church and be with family and they were fine it (of course I look back now and I left those people to handle the nursery "rush" on one of the busiest church days of the year, and those kids were probably all hyped up on candy, not cool). So I went to the little Christian church, and listened to their "He is risen, believe, be saved" message. I don't remember it meaning anything at all to me, but small steps take you places, just slower.

Brian and I got married in 2006 and because of that I thought, "I can now go to church without those people judging me. "Little did I know they weren't "judging me" in the first place. But I still thought they were nuts nuts nuts. Always happy and waiting for the end of the world, the return of Christ (I had no clue what that meant), and your name being written in The Book of Life. They weren't afraid of life or death. Over time, and by looking at a lot of religions, from Buddhism to Christianity, only one seemed true. I then asked a lady at church about how do you know if you are going to Heaven to Hell? How can you be sure? I was "saved” the next day.

Fast forward to Easter now, I again LOVE IT. I will admit that I still get a basket. Brian and I are fun loving people, kids at heart, and the idea of replicating some of my favorite childhood memories is stellar. We both get a little basket and it's a reminder of that special memory I had from a kid. And we both get candy, really a win-win in my eyes. As an adult, or at least kind of an adult, I actually will only eat a couple pieces, then get ready for church. How that rule stuck in my head, I'll never know. I then get ready for church, and yes I do try to look extra nice for Easter like a lot of people. Not for other people in the least, but because it's such a special day, normal clothes just don't seem to fit this occasion. At our church we eat Easter breakfast together. It's a breakfast potluck and we all gather together as a great big family and eat and rejoice that Christ is risen. Then we have our church service. Brian and I then go have a Easter dinner with a few of our family members, and it's a spectacular day.

There is a difference now though from when I was younger. When I was little Easter without the basket, candy, dinner, etc. wouldn't have been Easter. Now as a person who loves Christ, even though I like the basket, dinner etc., the one thing that would make Easter "not Easter" is not having the story, the reminder, being told the fact that we are celebrating the resurrection of Christ. That's what makes Easter special. You could build me a chocolate mansion, decorate it in pretty colored Easter eggs, and have a ham dinner inside and it wouldn't mean anything without Christ. Easter, also called in our church Resurrection Day, is special because of the biblical account of what Christ did for all.

If you already know the account, refresh the truth. If you have never heard, please read these verses and think about it, pray to God about it, ask about it. If you do not care to know, think about this reality: one day each person will die, and death isn't the end. Everyone will live in eternity but it will be in either Hell or Heaven (per the Bible). That was something that made me start to wonder about whats true.

What to keep in mind at Easter and everyday about yourself, and myself:

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way.

The main idea of Easter and what can make us feel better about those previous verses:

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever     believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

   The "Easter" story:

Matthew 27:29-31 When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed   in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” Then they spat on Him, and took the reed and struck Him on the head. And when they had mocked Him, they took the robe off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him away to be crucified.

Isaiah 52:14 Just as there were many who were appalled at him—his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any human being and his form marred beyond human likeness...

Isaiah 53:5-6 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Philippians 2:8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!

Luke 23:44-46, 52-53 It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last. Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body. Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, one in which no one had yet been laid.

Luke 24:1-8 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; He is risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’” Then they remembered his words.

Why would anyone, and how would anyone, believe that a man was raised form the dead:

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

John 20:29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Summary? Every single human is a sinner. We need someone to pay for our sins so we can join Christ in Heaven after death. God sent His Son to pay for those sins, because He loves us, but cannot over look sin. His Son died for us, His blood washing away and paying for our sins so we can be forgiven by God.

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."

Romans 10:9-10, 13 That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Happy Easter folks! I do hope it's a special for you all.

Noah- The Movie

Okay folks, I know there are other blogs, statuses, reviews, and whatever else already written about this movie (which I haven't read yet, didn't want to accidentally write something of their's in mine). However, a few people said, "after you watch it let me know what you think", and so I shall. *Warning I will be telling about the movie, so this is the "SPOILER ALERT"*

There are few key ideas I would like to start off with. First, I did not go to this movie with the idea that the movie was going to be a super biblical/accurate account of the truth written in the Bible. I have no delusions that Hollywood is going to keep close to God's word. That would be exactly what I just wrote, a delusion. Second I watched it because the previews looked intresting to me, I didn't go to "learn more about God", "get more information that the Bible "can't offer", or anything like that, I went to go watch a movie- plain and simple. Just like when I go to see any movie. Now when I go I am alert to anything that might try to change my view of God or what the Bible teaches, which for any Christian is a good idea.

So lets get into it. There are a few things they did a good job on, which I want to admit. I like Russell Crow's acting for one. Another is they do show the fall of man pretty well for Hollywood. They say once, "The Creator will provide" and that sentence is true. Small things like that,  they are here and there in the movie and match up. They are done well and make me happy. Everything else, doesn't go so well.  Artistic license, poetic license, etc. was taken. The definition for that, that I quickly found on Wikipedia is this, "...used to denote the distortion of fact...". Pretty accurate definition I thought, because that's exactly what they did. Now remember what I JUST wrote? I said I didn't think it would be accurate, I didn't think it would be "in line" with Bible. However, I had no idea just how much "artistic licsence" they would take. (In full disclosure a few friends told me to read reviews before I watched it, but I declined. I wanted to "see it for myself") From giant rock/fallen angle creatures, Ham, Shem, And Japheth not having wives, ( Japheth not even OLD enough to have a wife yet - he was a small boy), magical glowing rocks, Mathushael having..I guess..powers, and Noah wanting to kill his two grandchildren and ALL of them on Ark, it's honestly hard to wrap your head around that this movie was suppose to be about the Noah in the Bible.  I suppose in my mind I thought, "yeah it won't be close to the Bible, but the main ideas will be there". I thought the movie would have shown, by the end, as least this: Noah, his wife, his three sons and their three wives, mankind being wiped from the earth because of the amount of sin taking place, an Ark, rain, animals, the whole family on the Ark with the animals BECAUSE God has seen that Noah was righteous and wanted to save them and start anew. Seems simple to do, and yes in the movie there was Noah, a wife, his three sons, rain, and a couple others things, but it in no way is close to the Bible account. It reminds of what I told my friend, "I bet his name being Noah and the Ark will be right", sadly that was true and there wasn't much else that was. The most upsetting thing I think from all of this is I heard "Christian" radio stations promoting it, saying "while artistic license has been taken, we feel it holds true to the point of the story" or some such nonsense. As Christians we should call it out for what it is, which is not even close to anything that the Bible teaches. Christians shouldn't turn to movies to teach them about the Bible ever, but sometimes there are some "okay" movies out there, but this, to me, is not even a little okay. When Noah and his family get on the ark, all Noah can think about is everyone dying, "when we get off the ark the oldest will bury mother and I, second oldest will bury the oldest son and his "wife", and then the youngest boy will bury the second eldest brother, then the youngest will die and no one will bury him" (something like that) all because they all need to be punished like everyone else.  He believes only the animals should live in this new "Eden", and in the movie it's portrayed as if God believes this as well. So much in fact that when Shem's wife gets pregnant Noah says, "If it's a boy he can bury my youngest son, then no one will bury this new grandchild, but if it's a girl the moment you birth it I will kill it". Which he almost does, but finally realizes he cant- "defying God's will".  First there is no twin girls born on the Ark mentioned in the Bible, second them dying/being killed because they "deserve punishment as well" is not God's plan at all. Genesis 6:9-10, Genesis 7:1. This is the account of Noah and his family.Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God. Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth.  The Lord then said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation."  Genesis 9:1 Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth."  Also in the movie a descendant of Cain gets on the Ark  he "out does God". Water doesn't stop him, the (barf) rock creatures don't, he's unstoppable and gets on the Ark without Noah knowing. Ham knows, but at this point Noah had let the girl Ham hoped to be his wife die with everyone else, and Ham is ready to kill his father,  Noah , and help this evil man on the Ark- I won't even go into that. If you are a Christian you know the idea of someone getting around God's will is absurd.  Genesis 7:13, 16 On that very day Noah and his sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, together with his wife and the wives of his three sons, entered the ark. The animals going in were male and female of every living thing, as God had commanded Noah. Then the Lord shut him in."  The LORD shut them in, how false that someone could get "past God, and sneak on His Ark. I could go on and on, there are huge things that are wrong, like a giant scene depicting evolution *along with creation,  to little things that are just dumb to even add in my opinion. In the end the only TRUE account of God and Noah and the flood can be found in Genesis 6- 9, because let me assure you it cannot be found in that movie.

PRAYER! What is it good for? Absolutley.....

EVERYTHING!

Why pray? Doesn't God know everything? Doesn't God already have a plan? Why pray? It doesn't change anything. These questions can go on and on, but there are also answers that go on and on. Now I in no way claim to have all of them, but I will share some thoughts and scriptures that I found to answer that very common question. WHY PRAY??

First it's a command to pray and if you are a follower of Christ (saved) you should take that SERIOUSLY.  1 Thessalonians 5:17 "Pray without ceasing". Short and sweet. Do it.
Second, Jesus prayed. If Jesus prayed, I don't believe we are above it.
Mark 1:35 "Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed".
Third you get to talk to God. When He sacrificed His Son on the cross, Christ became our "Preist". We do not need someone else to go to God for us anymore, like in Old Testament days, because of Christ we can talk to Him through prayer, directly. Hebrews 4:14-16 "Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."
Fourth, He can help you.  Matthew 11:28 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Again, HE CAN HELP YOU, with ANYTHING. Matthew 19:26 "But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God ALL things are possible.” Jeremiah 32:27 ""I am the LORD, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?"
Fifthly and my last point, is this parable Jesus tells in Luke, it's my favortie. It answers: Why pray?
Luke 18:1-8 Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’ “For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’” And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly..."

When you are a child of God He listens to your prayers, and He will answer them.

Maybe I'll Write Blogs

So sometimes I write SUPER long posts on Facebook, and while I'm not promising that'll stop, I might start blogging instead. Stay tuned....
